What can we learn about application scoring from Texas Christian University’s Neeley School of Business admissions systems?

At Enrollment Rx, we recently had the opportunity to conduct a webinar with Theresa Kenagy from Texas Christian University’s Neeley School of Business. She explained their approach to scoring applications within Salesforce, utilizing an automated rubric methodology.  Kenagy outlined key areas that TCU focuses on in order to analyze each applicant’s admissions data to make an enrollment decision.  Those factors include:

Salesforce for Admissions – Applicant Factors: Using to find the story behind the basic facts

There are many potential influencing factors that could be taken into account when considering admissions criteria.  In the case of TCU, factors for admission include:

  • Intellectual Curiosity and Analytical Strength
  • Professional Experience
  • Career Goals and Leadership Potential
  • Ability to Contribute a Diverse Point of View

Salesforce for Admissions – Collecting Objective and Subjective Data Points

In an effort to achieve an automated admissions score, Kenagy explained that TCU utilizes certain key points of data, including the following six major factors that form decision-making process:

  • GMAT Score
  • GPA
  • Years of Work Experience
  • Professional Experience
  • Why MBA
  • Diverse Point of View

The Equation – Automating Salesforce for Admissions Decisions

TCU is able to plug in a configurable set of criteria that can be weighted differently based on factors such as program or applicant type.  Therefore,  they can set the parameters to seek out applicants that meet a certain criteria and automatically admit applicants that meet those standards while holding other applicants for further consideration.  By using Salesforce for Admissions and automating a scoring rubric as much as possible, TCU is able to make it easy for the recruiters to get a baseline numerical score and recommendation: Admit, Consider, or Deny.
